Brondell RO Circle Water Saving Reverse Osmosis Water Filter System ReviewIf you are looking for a different reverse osmosis system, you can try this Brondell RO Circle Water Saving Reverse Osmosis Water Filter System. It is very unusual, compared to other mainstream RO systems. It comes with a very beautiful box and everything is in it. This means easy installation and the number or exposed tubes under the sink can be reduced. This also means it looks much tidier. Of course, it has an elegant appearance, but it is also an under sink water filter.

Besides its novel look, this filter is also very efficient. Most reverse osmosis systems produce 1 gallon of pure water but produce 3 gallons of waste water too. However, this system produces 1 gallon of water but only produces other 2 gallons of waste water. This means when you use it to produce each gallon of pure water, it helps saving about 1 gallon of water for you. Thanks to its “intelligent smart valve” that along with a circular reservoir, back pressure can be effectively eliminated, making it one of the most efficient reverse osmosis systems that don’t need a water pump to work.

As a 4-stage RO filter, it has the following stages:

Stage One:

The stage one filter is a sediment filter that can reduce large particulate materials, including rust, sand and other fine particles from our feed water. Actually, it works as a pre-filter to filter out large particles. And this can protect the following stage filters, extending their lifespan.

Stage Two:

The stage 2 filter is a pre-carbon plus filter which can reduce VOCs (volatile organic compounds), chlorine, as well as soluble contaminants. These contaminants may damage the core part of this system – the RO membrane. And the pre-carbon plus filter can protect it.

Stage Three:

The stage 3 filter is the core filter of this system. The RO membrane is a semi-permeable membrane. When water is forced to pass through it, only water can pass through this membrane, while other contaminants are left in other side of the RO membrane. This process separates water from other contaminants. Therefore, the RO membrane is used to reduce many types of pollutants, including arsenic, cysts, heavy metals, industrial chemicals, etc.

Stage Four:

After the stage 3, most contaminants are removed or reduced. However, there are some remaining contaminants, like VOCs and chlorine. The stage 4 filter can remove them furthermore. It is a post carbon block filter that can reduce these remaining pollutants. This filter can effectively improve the smell and taste of the filtered water.

This system only offers stickers for all the filters which can help remind you when you need to change these filters. Plus, it offers a LED indicator light on its faucet. When the water filters are needed to change, the LED light will light up, so you never miss when you need to change them. This is an innovative design. The lifespan of its filters is influenced by the feed water quality. If your tap water quality is very bad, you may need to install a whole house water filters first. And this can extend the RO filter’s life.

Filtration System Design

This system doesn’t only come with modular filters, but all whole system is modular. Both the water filters and water reservoir are contained in an elegant box which can fit in the cupboard under most counter tops. The water storage tank can hold up to 6 liter of water and it is also contained in the package. Therefore, even if you make it in an exposed area, it is also very tidy and will not look out-of-place.

Due to its modular design, it is so easy change its filters. You just need to open its front and change its filters by hand. Give it a 1/4 turn and then easily pulling it out. And the pulling a new one in and give it a 1/4 reverse turn. That’s all. Except the RO membrane, other filters needs to be changed every 6 months, if you use about 2 1/2 gallons of pure water. The RO membrane filter needs to be changed every 2 years.

On its faucet, there is an indicator that will tell you when to change them. If you find the indicator flashes red, you need to change the filters. Before that, the indicator flashes blue, which means the filters work properly. Generally, after 6 months or 475 gallons of filtered water is dispensed, the indicator will flash red which tell you need to change them. After replacing the battery, the light will be reset. You can find the battery in the filter change kit.

Water Efficiency

Although it is not the most efficient reverse osmosis system in the market, it is one of the most units when it comes to water wasted to produce 1 gallon of pure water. Other systems may use a permeate pump to improve the efficiency. Other RO system may need 4 gallons of water to produce only 1 gallon of pure water, while this system can produce 1 gallon but only waste 2.1 gallons of water. This means when you use it to get 1 gallon of water, it helps saving about 1 gallon of water. When it comes to its efficiency, you can check this data sheet to learn more.

How to install

Similar to other RO systems, it is also very easy to install. In most situations, it doesn’t need to drill a hole for the faucet, because most sinks have a spray nozzle or blanked off hole. Therefore, this is not a problem. If your sink is too old, you may need to use a driller to drill such a hole. Of course, you can hire someone to do the job for you. If you would not like to drill such a hole, you may need to choose a countertop water filter instead.

And now, it is time to connect it to the feed water supply. First, you need to disconnect your flexible supply hose by putting‘T’ connector on the end of the pipe and reconnecting. And then attach the feed pipe to the cold water supply. All the connections are carried out by means of “push-fit” connectors.

The last step is to connect the waste hose via a saddle connector to the waste water pipe. If you are still confused, you can check this file to learn more.

Pros & Cons

Advantages

  • Comes in a compact package
  • Wate output: up to 56 gallons per day
  • A LED indicator reminds you when to change the filters.
  • Water filters lifespan – about 6 months or 475 gallons
  • The RO Membrane life – about 2 years
  • Automatic membrane flushing
  • Comes with a 12-month manufacturer’s warranty

Disadvantages

  • It is an all-in-one RO system and can fit it most under counter cupboards. However, its dimensions are 9.25” (W) x 13.8” (D) x 16.5” (H) and sometimes, flexibility may be lost when installing.
  • It is only a 4-stage RO system.

Verdict

The Brondell RO Circle Water Saving Reverse Osmosis Water Filter System is a very unique under sink RO system. And its all-in-one design makes it much tidier than others, because you only can see a whole box that is very elegant. And it offers a higher water efficiency, due to the fact that it only wastes 2.1 gallons of water by producing 1 gallon of pure water. However, if the space under the sink is too small, this all-in-one unit is not suitable.

Anyway, if you need special RO filter with an all-in-one feature and also pursue higher water efficiency, this one is suitable for you.
