iSpring RCC7AK-UV Deluxe Under Sink 7-Stage Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Filtration System ReviewOverview of the iSpring RCC7AK-UV

iSpring is good at designing and manufacturing reverse osmosis system, and this iSpring RCC7AK-UV Deluxe Under Sink 7-Stage Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Filtration System is a popular and high-rated RO system from iSpring. It is a variation of another iSpring RO system: iSpring RCC7AK.

Similar to its predecessor, it is also remineralization water filter. And the difference is that it comes with a UV (Ultraviolet) light filter. It uses UV light to sterilize water, which helps to kill the small percentage of bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms which may pass through the RO membrane. Therefore, this design is really a great complement to the RO filter. And this can ensure all the bacteria and viruses can be effectively killed in the filtered water. Our tap water from our municipal water systems contains a smaller percentage of these microorganisms, but other natural water source (like well water) may contain higher levels of microorganisms. Therefore, if you need to purify your well water, a reverse osmosis system with a UV filter is a good choice. Anyway, a UV filter can enable us to have the healthiest water maximally. Anyway, the UV filter need a 110V electric power plug.

The drawback of RO membranes is that they remove all the minerals, no matter the minerals are healthy or not to us. Water without any minerals tastes plain and a little acidic. However, this RO system can avoid these issues, because it will add healthy minerals back into the filtered water and raises the pH of the filtered water. This means the result water will not taste plain and slightly acidic, because it tends to be more alkaline. Therefore, you will always have fresher tasting water to consume and will not worry about the loss of the minerals.

As a 7-stage RO system, it is also one of the higher capacity water filter, when it comes to the RO system. Generally, it will produce up to 75 gallons of filtered water every day, which is enough for a family to drink and cook.

Each time this system produces 1 gallon of filtered water, it will produce another 3 gallons of waste water. This level is average compared to other mainstream RO systems. However, the amount of waste water may be influenced by the water pressure of your feed water.

And this system is pretty easy to install. It comes with everything you need to install it. You can do the installation yourself. Even if you only have basic skills, you can finish the installation within 1 hour. If you are not confident, you can ask a plumber for help. A storage tank and a water faucet are included, so you don’t need to buy them separately.

Filtration System Design

With a transparent plastic filter holder, you can see clearly that several cartridge type filter sit. Although it is not so easy to change its filters compared to other modular water filters, it has also optimized its design. Therefore, the replacement becomes simple and quick too. Don’t need to worry about it. Other systems like the Home Master systems use modular filters are much easier to change, because you just need to pull out the old ones and the pushes in the new ones.

In this system, if it is time to changes its filters, first you need to use its plastic spanner wrench (included in the package) to loosen its housing. And then, just use your hand to unscrew the old filter and take it out. Push the new water filter in place, apply some Vaseline to its “O” ring, and finally screw it in the housing. The last step is to tighten up its housing with the spanner wrench.

Water Efficiency

A RO system cannot avoid producing waste water when it purifies water. How much waste water it will produce determines its efficiency. When using this RO filter to purify water, each 4 gallons of source water will produce 1 gallon of purified water and 3 gallons of waste water. The ratio is about 1:3. However, the efficiency can vary according to the water pressure and temperature of the feed water. When it comes to a RO system, the ratio is average. This means most RO systems have the same water efficiency.

Installation

For a RO system, the water pressure is a key factor that will influence its efficiency. Too low or high water pressure is not good. If the water pressure is too low, it will lower the whole efficiency of the RO membrane. On the other hand, if the water pressure is too high, the RO membrane will be destroyed quickly. The ideal pressure of this system should be between 40 and 80 psi. If your water pressure is lower than 40 psi, you need to install a permeate pump to boost pressure. If the pressure is above 80 psi, you may need to use a pressure regulator to lower its pressure.

The iSpring RCC7AK-UV is designed to be easy to install. Anyone with basic skills can install it within about 1 hour. Of course, you can hire a plumber to do the job, if you think the installation process is a little complicated.

The only difficulty is that you may need to drill a hole in the sink top to install the pure water faucet. However, in most cases, a hole is available for a soap dispenser or a hand sprayer. Or just there is a hole with a blank cover. This means, in most cases, you don’t need to drill a hole, unless you have a very old kitchen and very old sink top.

In the package of this system, you will get the installation and user’s manual that are very detailed, so you can install your system step by step. A better advice is that you can watch the installation video from iSpring first. After that, I think you can be more confident to install it. You also can learn how to change its filter from this video.
